Catherine Bush, Author and Educator

Acrylic and silver leaf on stretched canvas. 30″ x 30″

Catherine Bush  is the author of five novels, including the climate-themed Blaze Island (2020). She has written and spoken internationally about addressing the climate crisis in fiction and brings climate issues into her creative writing pedagogy. She is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Guelph and an Affiliate Member of the Guelph Institute for Environmental Research. I have used silver leaf as it reminds me of air, snow, frost, fog. Winter trees, bare of leaves, sleeping until the thaw. The wolf (based on a photo by photographer Clara Unkczy, used with permission) represents communication, teaching and intelligence, symbolically a peer to Catherine, bringing attention to climate change. The image of Catherine is based on a photo by Arden Wray.
