Alana Westwood and Olive-Sided Flycatcher

Acrylic on gallery mount stretched canvas. 101 x 76 cm 40″ x 30″

From the “Voices foe the Wild” series: Alana Westwood PhD is a Botanist, Educator and Researcher. A lifelong advocate for healthy forests, Alana Westwood is an academic researcher and teacher at the School for Resource and Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University.  Alana’s research brings together forests, species at risk and science policy. She has in the past worked for conservation non-profits, government, and industry and seeks to build bridges across sectors to tackle wicked environmental problems.

In this painting, I am attempting to capture the light emanating both from her and the Blue Spruce Bog, the type of forest her research is focussed on, with an Olive Sided Fly Catcher, the bird of her thesis research.
