About this Project

This series is the natural evolution of my work over the past fifteen years, blending portraiture, landscapes, nature, and wildlife into meaningful narratives. Voices for the Wild honors female land defenders and environmentalists across Canada, portraying them alongside animals from the landscapes they protect. My goal is to document their activism, educate the public, and highlight the diverse ways women fight for the environment. By showcasing subjects of different ages, backgrounds, and expertise, I want to emphasize that activism is for everyone—each of us has the power to create change. While these women give voice to the wild, my art gives voice to them.

Inspiration

Our ecosystems are fragile and under threat. Through my work, I seek to capture their richness and vitality, reminding viewers that nature is more than a resource—it is life itself. I draw inspiration from the resilience of women activists, the beauty of wildlife, and the deep respect for nature found in Indigenous traditions. My woodland walks fuel my creativity, compelling me to depict the urgency of protecting these spaces for future generations.

Process

My paintings are fantasy narratives infused with vibrant colors and energetic brushstrokes to reflect the strength and presence of my subjects. For the past three years, I’ve experimented with embroidery and beading on canvas, merging traditional women’s craft with historically masculine media.

Goals

Environmental destruction and climate change demand our attention. My art serves as a call to action, raising awareness while also drawing more people into the world of art. Through storytelling, we can reveal the reality of our planet’s struggles—and inspire the vision of a better future. Creating art about nature with natural materials is itself a form of activism, a way to spark change through creativity.
