Apropos

In my work, I seek to create dynamic, uplifting surfaces that invite the viewer into a conversation between light, texture, and form. Through atmospheric perspective, rich glazes, deliberate drips, and bold, gestural marks, I embrace both the subtlety and contrast that arise when loose brushwork meets highly detailed, representational elements. My artistic process is driven by a combination of personal experience, photographic reference, and memory, allowing me to reimagine nature in ways that speak to both its fragility and its resilience.
My current series, “Voices for the Wild” features large mixed-media paintings honouring female land defenders and environmentalists from across Canada. I interview my subjects to determine the appropriate setting, animals, flora, and fauna that will best represent their work. I aim to document and draw attention to women activists working in the field in various ways, whether on the ground, as scientists, or in the arts. They are passionate about their field of work, and I wish to convey that to the viewer. By highlighting women who work in different ways in various places, from all parts of our country, focused on a variety of nature systems: scientists, authors, professors, musicians and activists, all working on environmental issues I hope to show that anyone can be an participate in these types of initiatives. My subjects range in age from their teens through their 90s. They are on the ground doing this important work, giving voice to the wild. I am in the studio giving voice to them. This is my contribution.
A core value in my practice is sustainability. I frequently incorporate found or upcycled materials collected during my walks, reflecting my commitment to environmental responsibility. Nature serves as both muse and driving force in my life, and I strive to give it a voice in my art. I am deeply committed to the protection of the natural world, which I see as not just a moral obligation but an imperative. This commitment extends beyond the canvas—since 2022, I have donated over $2,000 to environmental nonprofits (such as Legacy Fund For the EnvironmentBird Protection QuebecMcGill Bird ObservatoryUrbanature Education, and Le Nichoir) through the sales of my artworks.
Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a greater connection to nature for my viewers by encouraging awareness and action through my art.

I have always been happy to make and to share my art. Probably my Dad took this picture. I cropped out my friend and neighbour, whose mom was also an artist.

Posing with works from the Voices for the Wild series at the Annual Gratitude Gala for the volunteers at Le Table du Quartier, 2024. These works contain upcycled and foraged elements, including hand dyed silk, scraps of fabric (including from my wedding dress!) and hung from wood found in the forest.
