This owl is inspired by a photo of a Short~eared owl in flight (Asio Flammeus) by the photographer with an Instagram handle of blackcat_blackbird (Rocky, with permission). I imagine he’s hunting for something as he flies over the grassy meadow. I wanted to capture the loose mysterious feel of flight in fading light, so I kept the brush strokes loose and the sky atmospheric with lots of glazing.
